Bill Bailey
Most classes of steam loco's in BR ownership had nameplates with both red and black backgrounds at some time (the exception being light blue for Empire of India at some point - and others??). What periods were they generally black and then red or vice versa? I have not found any definative answer including a good look through Frank Burridge's book on the subject, unless I am looking and not seeing. RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 3, 2013 quite a few exceptions regarding blue... the BoB's for instance.
JeffP
Lots of ex-LNER Scottish-based locos carried light blue plates.
bobthesod4479
IIRC the Ex GN line had a mixture of REd and Black on all the pacifics. There is nothing definitive in the Yeadons nor RCTS series, the only proof is a pic that will be dated, although it could have changed at an earlier or later date. Bit of a minefield
