Taigatrommel
I think I can offer a bit of context for the images of 18 201 on Dostos... The maroon/cream livery was used for Berlin suburban trains in the 1980s. During this era, DR ran specials in West-Berlin under the banner "Dampflok-Romantik", marketed at West German railfans - presumably an easy way of getting precious foreign currency. The August 1989 season used 18 201 and the stock you illustrate. There are significant differences between the ones running with 18 201 in 1989 and the traffic red stock still around, a refurbishment saw new (and more) windows on the upper deck, plug doors, new window frames on the lower deck as external differences. DR wouldn't have wanted to run the stock with a steam loco out of summertime, they're ETH only. Assuming there's no driving trailer (which wouldn't work with a steam loco anyway!), the vehicle type is DBmue.
Horsetan
Given that the DDR was somewhere in the region of 130 billion DM in debt by the time of its demise, I guess Eisenbahnfreunde tours wouldn't have made much of a dent....
