late 80's scotland

Hi,

 

Im thinking of trying something different for me and attempting to join in this challenge, but instead of having it located in my usual NSE region im thinking of setting it in Scotland in the 80's. But this is where im now getting stuck (decisions decisions) do i make a terminus along the lines of an Oban type setting or a station like Cairnlarich. But i would like to also run DMU's, and intercity trains similar to the GQS-INV formations

 

I already have an 6'x2' board constructed from a previous project that i could use, or i could construct a pair of new boards that could be based on an 18" width to give me some extra length.

 

I am going to build it in N gauge and would like to to run 6+1 length trains.

 

Could you please let me know your thoughts or any inspirations as im banging my head a bit on this.

P.S does anyone know where i can find list's of coaching stock numbers/liverys from the 80's
