Simon, There lies the problem, I don’t think there is any way to stop someone from sharing the CAD files with all their mates and anyone else on the internet. If there was a way to do that I would be very tempted to sell some of my files for others to print themselves. Cheers Carl

Hi Ian, That’s great to hear that you were able to complete the video. I totally agree about the sense of achievement as you see project come to fruition. You will find in the videos I zoom in and out quite a bit to be able to select the smaller items like that. The mouse I use has a center roller wheel, which is set up for the zoom function. Hi Ian, it looks like you have the line I have drawn an arrow to constrained to the mid point, if you look at lesson 2 i show how to fine the midpoint. If you have accidentally caught it it wont let you change all the dimensions properly. If you are trying to Dimension the line i have marked with the green arrow, it wont let you as you have already defined it top and bottom edges to the face. Cheers Carl

Hi all, I have Scheduled a video on YouTube for tomorrow at 18:00 GMT I will be online in the chat feature to talk to anyone who has any questions about it. I have a large complex Item that I require for my Model Railway that isn't available at all in any RTR or Kit format. This project I believe will be massive for the N gauge community as a whole, but just because I'm drawing this in N gauge doesn't exclude any other gauges as you can easily scale the project in post processing . Many CAD designer's like to maintain control of the hard work that goes into producing items like this. I'm happy to take you all along for the ride through the process from start to finished model showing an honest view of design, printing and any refinement's that are required in the process, warts and all. Hi Ian, I'm more than happy to help. without seeing exactly what you have done it’s hard for me to give you a definitive answer. But what I suspect has happened is when you have placed the rectangle you have accidentily picked up a constraint from another part of the design. Possible a midpoint, did any dashed blue lines appear as you were placing them? Can you post a pic of the different constraints you are seeing? Regards Carl

Hi JCL, Thanks for your comments. I have also done something similar to your test piece, I found that things like Temp, different bottles of resin even though it was the same Manufacturer and same colour, Angle of print, ETC. Make so much difference that some times you just need to test a part and if it doesn't work change it and try it again. I will make sure I follow along with your work in Blender. Thanks Carl

Hi Andy, Thanks for your constructive feedback, I'm hoping that tutorials can take away some of people fear of CAD and enable to modelling community as a whole benefit from it as its a wonderful tool. I have had some feedback on other forums about not introducing some of the functions of Fusion early enough I.e the copy, pattern and mirror functions, especially on items like the Skip. I think the way i have done it is based on the skills i have learnt in my day job as a Driving instructor. We teach in a way that you build skills up in layers rather than through everything at someone from the start. So my thinking was get people to practice how to create a sketch and dimension it over and over rather than just use the power of the software. Cheers Carl

Scott Thank you for you feedback and I’m glad your finding the content useful. yeah I’m not sure I will do complete lessons on how to draw a complete wagon. I had someone message me about how to draw a specific shape on a wagon he was drawing yesterday. It would take me only take me a couple of minuits to create a short vid to have shown the answer and lots of people would find it useful. cheers Carl

Hi, I would say at the moment I’m aiming at complete beginners, but that’s not to say that others with some experience would gain any knowledge from the lessons. Thanks for the feedback on the Sound. At the moment I’m using a mike on my headset, if the channel takes off and i get the subscriber support I will look at buying a decent mike. Cheers Carl

At the moment I’m just working through some basic models to show how to use some of the tools within the fusion 360 software, while still showing how to draw some items that people may find of use. The plan is to the go on and show how to draw more complex items including rolling stock and also have a section where people can ask how they could draw specific items. Cheers Carl

Hi all, From looking at photos available online I would say that 92017’s roof should be the same blue that was used when the 92’s were originally painted in RFD.. Carl

Paul, Those drawing/pictures are perfect. But looking through all of the sample pages on the website I don’t see any dimensions. Am I missing them? i don’t have anything particular in mind, but I do have the ability to draw and 3D print most things. If you look in my post footers you will see I have a Layout called Loch Lorn. I’m thinking about turning it into a RhB layout but before I make that step I would like to be able to actually draw some of the stock so that I don’t have to rely on Kato or the over priced Shapeways. To give you an idea why I say Shapeways is overpriced is that I can currently print a BR MK1 coach for about £3 costs on Shapeways that would be £20 ish. to give you an idea of what I’m able to do please see the attached photo of a EPB unit I have draw and printed. Paul, Thanks for that information. Those books do look very expensive. The other option I could take to draw them in CAD is using photos that are taken roughly 90 degrees to them. But then i need to know the one of the dimensions. I.e length, width or height the software can then scale that pic to the correct size. I did find some photos end on the site you suggested above. Any suggestions for the dimenstions would be helpful. Cheers Carl
