DJfraz
Airth Garadh was started late 2011, it is a 00 gauge layout set in central Scotland. the layout measures 6" x 1" including fiddle yard. It centralizes around a large distribution warehouse. the facilities on the layout include a single road engine shed alongside a refueling point, for use with both diesel and steam locomotives. the layout is analog using the gaugemaster combi controller. Points are controlled with seep point motors mounted underneath the layout, the auxiluary switch on them drive led indicators on the control panel. of the layout early this year, a newer video will be uploaded when I have the time [/size] Airth Garadh by DJfraz37401, on Flickr Buildings by DJfraz37401, on Flickr Shed Cobbling by DJfraz37401, on Flickr Control Panels by DJfraz37401, on Flickr Bridge by DJfraz37401, on Flickr

DJfraz
done some work today on the bridge which acts as the scenic break. A started adding the roads leading off. I also primed and began painting it, i managed to complete the brickwork and gave the metalwork a first coat. Will update tomorrow with pictures of the bridge. DJfraz
well as promised some pictures of the bridge after painting. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted April 16, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 16, 2013 Coal is loaded by gravity, no doubt, not least 'cos it's free. I believe this wagon pre-dates MGR ops, where the train never actually stops, so suspect it would have had two, maybe three, humps of coal, rather than this level load. DJfraz
feel like a idiot. Decided to run some locos this morning, and the two shed isolators where only working when both were isolate. So i set about trying to find out why. After two hours of checking connections, trying a different switch, and a multitude of other tests I decided to cheack the continuity across the rails with the droppers disconnected from the terminal blocks. The rails which i put in place fort the cobbling where touching the working rails and linking the live isolateor to the isolated section, hence why they would only work when both where isolated. It has been a good week.Managed to ballast all of the layout and start work on the ground cover, expect some pictures once I get round to it. I also had an eureka moment while out this morning, what if you placed a LED in parallel with a capacitor. For the non-electronic minded, basically it will fade the LED which could be used for giving the effect if a bulb in a signal dying. here is the to the Video Will upload a video of it working with the signal attached to the bridge soon once i have built up the complete circuit on a prototype board. I will also upload another video show all upgrades to my layout since the last video of the initial testing.
DJfraz
after uploading that video of my LED fader i decided to make up the stripboard version which will be added to the layout So here it is
DJfraz
Here is the first of many progress reports on the layout which all be uploded on youtube. Subscribe to my channel to see them as soon as I publish them So after the problems with the electrics I decided to build something. I had decided a while ago that i was going to replace the engine shed as i was never full happy with it apperance on the layout. I thought i might make it longer, then i realized two problems with this idea; 1- if i extend it, sue to the setrack used, locos would not be able to access the fueling siding adjacent 2- I have already place an outline of the shed in wood, which has been sealed in by the cobbles So i set about building one the exact same size, or near enough, to the original but with all the feature i wanted. So here is part of the finished result, alll i have to do now is make up windows, doors and roof tiles. DJfraz
had some free time today so thought I might add see how some old lamps that i found in my spares box would look on the overbridge. Just i cant make up my mind as to how it suits the layout. I know that i will never be able to tell while it is still in the state that it is in, but i want to see what everybody else thinks. Placing of lamps on the overbridge by DJfraz37401, on Flickr Placing of lamps on the overbridge by DJfraz37401, on Flickr The small barrel at the end will, if i decide to fit them, fit into a small hole in the road surface. The other side to this dilema is the bridge which this one is roughly modeled on didn't have any lamps anywhere near it. the only way to light the road was using your headlights. So i don't know what to do, so help please
DJfraz
Have uploaded a video on youtube, the next progress report along with an update on the LED fader circuit which i will be converting to a Printed circuit board HereGot a nice surprise today. My mother got given a simair airbrush for me from a friend or hers at work, and i know that some people will be sreaming at me through their computers as i write these words. As it is operated from an aerosol can, and no i do not have a compressor to replace it with. But we all have to start somewhere.I have for quite a while owned a premiair G35 which i aquired off of a friend from my local Model railway club, for a steal, only £10. And i do feel bad now thaat i know that it is a £50 airbrush.I am planning on purchasing a compressor and airbrush set off of ebay, which appears to be a very good buy at only just under £70 +£10p&p for courier.Airbrush and compressor And why i am really putting this up is because I do not know a thing about airbrushes, and i want to hear anything that people have to say about these

DJfraz
I was messing around with Autocad Inventor this after noon to design a building to act as a weighbridge, and here is what i came up with. Now just need to build it. Weight Bridge and shed by DJfraz37401, on Flickr It has been a while since i last uploaded much on the layout, and now is the best time to do it as i have finaly done some. I Have taken off the fiddle yard board since the remainder of the work is scenic. I have also decided to remove the point indicators. Just because i have enough wiring under the layout and they don't seem to want to work. This will give me more room to control the signal from the control panel rather than from a small box attached to the back of the backscene. I will also install a small elevated crane in the position indicated, It will be controlled via a servo mounted underneath. this bit is for the electronics minded modeler. The servo is going to be controlled by a homemade circuit using a 555 chip in astable mode to give the pulses required for the servo and instead of using the one resistor to decide the high period i will be using 3 potentiometers , all connected to a rotary switch. This will give three pre-set positions for the crane to sit at I have also done some work on the wood on the layout at the shed area, I have use teak oil to darken the wood and keep the grain visible. So far the oil hasn't had too much effect on the wood only slightly darkening it but hopefully with another coat or two it will come out fine. And that is all for the now, I will be uploading some pictures of my ideas for the main warehouse soon.
DJfraz
Managed to get some more work done on the layout, this time is was cleaning up the wiring. As to call what it was before spaghetti was a complement. So now i have no more flying wires going nowhere, or massive bundles of cable going under and over everything. The wiring is by no means perfect, but it is a far improvement

DJfraz
had a good day out at the perth exhibithon today and managed to pick up some stuff for the layout I got paints for weathering the tracks, and some yard lights from ekon. which was even more of a bargin as it had the contents of two kits inside it. DJfraz
got a lot of scenic work done to the layout over the past two days. After buying the airbrush set off of ebay which i uploaded earlier. Will upload some images tomorrow along with another youtube video. I am personly happy with the results
DJfraz
as promised here is some images of the track and grass, just some extra details to be added to the grass. such as adding straw colored static grass fibers to the mix to match it to the basket liner. You can hardly hear the compressor running. Once charged to 57psi it switches out and then kicks back in again to charge up when the pressure is at at 35psi. The two airbrushes are slightly different versions as you can see in the packaging, but both have the double action control switch/lever on top. I'm impressed with his purchase and thinking of following suit. I reckon it's a neat bit of kit, certainly for weathering and general paint work.
