So i have been playing trains tonight,  with my wrong scale track, my wrong code rail, my lack of OHLE and vague acknowledgement of time.... :)

A quick look down  a quiet morning at Lower Crappleton.... nothing much to see bar a resting ShoveDuff and a 108 abandoned....

A wider view shows the  refurbished ( but not completed) platforms 1-4 being 12 coach max  - platofrm 5 is awaiting a delivery of used R460's and some mental prep for more painting.

You can see the remains of the old shed roads pre "extension"

As the parcels train departs the air is still but not for long.  struggling along is 37 with a long rake of commuters.

Just to blow the remote hint of "era" continuity  a quick shot of stuff lurking in the RTP depot that awaits rebuild from its former glory with the new track layout

.

Will look to rebuild the scenery in the coming weeks once track layout is finalised.

A dire day in the attic..

Bachmann  66 decided to go AWOL,  burnt out all its wiring from pickups to pcb,  Havent been able to determine if the sound chip survived -  factory fitted body never been off but as its 6 years old it isnt going to be a warranty job....have started replacing the wiring and keeping my fingers crossed.  It looks like the pickup wire has rubbed through and shorted on the chassis block, but cant be sure.

Had previously tried some weathering - with not brilliant results.  But i guess practice makes perfect. Was using powders - which seemingly blew away when i applied a lacquer to seal.  too close when spraying?

the 2 further away were weathered by others..  410  was me... needs work.

I found this really useful as i had no idea about weathering powders and how to apply them and this technique seems to work well forme ..

Made a little bit of progress over the weekend  ( as well as spending some cash at the Preston Show).

Good news:

1.  Found a box  / parcel unopened post date 2011 -  contents  1 x Loksound v4  Valenta.  So both ends of my HST now make noise.

2.  Corrected a couple of track defects that were causeing some poor running issues - particularly with Mk3  and Container traffic.

3.  Idendified a couple more to fix shortly.

4.  Fitted decoder to one end of my Voyager - so slights work now atr that end.  Other end will be sorted when I am back from the US - Charlie is reblowing the "motion limited" decoder from the poorly 66 which will populate the other end.

5. Cured poor running of my 159  after a stripdown and lube service.

6. Fitted DCC bus suppressors.

7. Got a Zimo  645R  with Paul Chetter 47 sounds for my DRS 237 - sounds pretty good with 2 "dumbo" speakers - need to tweak for more bass.

Bad news:

1. 85 is still a write off.

2. 66 needs a sound chip - but there seems a proliferation of these going cheap on "the bay"

3. my 33 decided to shed a wheel - which was unexpected - and promptly vaulted off the board  - so need new buffer / beam / nudge bar..

  • 2 weeks later...

Back from the US - and have been working away on this.

I need to take some pictures but a rough list of what has progressed:

1. 5 lines through my station are down.

2. the Depot/ stabing lines are in  ( all 3 of them),  the shed and wash plant are in place awaiting some scenic work.

3. 4 lines are in through dads station.

4.  one of 12 train tech buffer lights deployed. Need some better buffer stops than the Hornby plastic ones.

Calculated today that the outermost loop utilising the furthest route almost into the as yet hidden yard in the bottom of the "L" shaped loft is somewhere in the region of 110ft in length  which in my book means 8360ft scale or  just over 1.58miles.. :)
