RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 11, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2013 I've been holding off putting these details up, because I've been waiting for confirmation regarding the arrangements, but as these have now been received, albeit verbally, I'm happy to share with you what is planned for Saturday 27th April, the day before the 'model railway exhibition' part of the event - ie. the Members Day itself on the Sunday. Saturday events This is what is planned. You don't have to partake in each individual element, (or at all), or alternatively you can come along for everything, but please let me know (by PM) if you are coming, where I mention it in the thread. 1) Train trip to Minehead Meet at Bishops Lydeard (outside the shop on the Up platform) for the 1235 train to Minehead. This should be steam-hauled. Depending on numbers, I wasn't planning on reserving seats or going for a party booking, but if numbers are sufficient, this may be worthwhile. Some people may qualify for a priv rate or even free travel (WSRA members). 2) At Minehead The train gets to Minehead at 1352 hrs. I've been in discussion with friends at the WSR, and they have kindly agreed that our group can visit the signal box for an escorted visit, and will also (subject to operational conditions on the day being favourable) be able to see the turntable in operation and at close quarters. I would ask anyone wishing to come on these two parts of the visit to bring a high visibility vest, if you have one (if you don't - not to worry, we'll sort something out locally). The return train departs at 1605, so any time remaining after the escorted visits can be used as you wish. More info on the WSR here - http://www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk/ 3) Return trip The return trip - which should also be steam-hauled - arrives at Bishops Lydeard at 1722 hrs. The plan then is to go straight into the Taunton MRG's clubroom on the Down platform and once again have a look at the splendid Bath Green Park and Tamerigg Central layout. 4) Evening Meal As mentioned on the meal thread, this will be at The Lethbridge in Bishops Lydeard itself. The table is reserved for 1930 hrs and the pub is circa 5 mins walk from the station - more info on the thread here - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/70201-taunton-members-weekend-event-2013-important-saturday-evening-meal-arrangements/ **IMPORTANT - WHAT I NEED FROM YOU, PLEASE!** If you are coming on the train to/from Minehead, please let me know by PM (so that I can investigate a party booking, if there are sufficient numbers) If you are coming on the escorted visit to Minehead signal box and the turntable, please let me know by PM (so that I can inform the WSR of numbers) If you are coming to the meal in The Lethbridge in the evening, please let me know by PM, (so that I can ensure we have a large enough table!) My apologies to those of you who have already given me your names for this part of the event. Many thanks.
Pugsley
Erm, shouldn't this be for 2013, or are you really getting ahead for next year?
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 11, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 11, 2013 Erm, shouldn't this be for 2013, or are you really getting ahead for next year? Doh, doh and thrice doh! Metropolitan
Please can I drive the train to Minehead? Or shovel some coal into the firebox? If it's their DMU forget the above request. Scrap the thing I say. John A
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 25, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2013 An update for the Saturday events: WSR advise motive power for the 1235 ex-Bishops Lydeard should be 2-6-0 No. 9351, with S&DJR 2-8-0 No. 88 working the return trip at 1605 hrs from Minehead. If anyone has a HV jacket, please bring it with you. If you don't have one, don't worry, the WSR will find you one on loan. Finally, it seems that Bath Green Park is not operational at the moment, as the layout is being completely re-wired. I'm assured that Tamerigg is working, and there will also be the club's new layout of Bishops Lydeard itself on display, under construction. Also, some of the BGP boards can be viewed 'on their side' as the re-wiring work continues, which may also be of interest to some.
