Mr Brunel
Hello all, As I have been posting on here for a while now, I thought it was about time I corrected a grevious oversight and showed some of my own work for once (and I'll apologise now for the quality of the models and the photographs). While I've built aeroplanes and other wingy things for some time, this is my first shot at railway kits. Although I don't have a layout as yet, some day I'll model the GWR, 1933-1937ish period - this hobby is built on 'some day', isn't it? For the edification and, no doubt, entertainment of the fine body of men here, through the marvel of steam-powered string, here are some of my humble efforts. The two vans are Coopercraft Minks, and the Toad is a bog standard Ratio; paint is Humbrol white and Phoenix grey squirted inexpertly out of cans... Castle
Hi Mr B, No need to apologise about this - top work good sir! And another GWR / BR(W) thread to read to boot... Great stuff! All the best, Castle

Kev_Lewis
It's great to see another GWR based Workbench thread. The Minks and the Toad look very tidy indeed. Keep up the good work.
Mr Brunel
Many thanks to everybody who has posted so far! Later on, when the camera is charged, I'll post some more work - in the meantime, here's a little something to tide you over. I acquired it last week - it's the old Airfix Castle, and while I would like to claim responsibility for the respray and detailing, that was done by the previous owner. Not bad, I think. Mr Brunel
It's been a long time since I last posted on here - my sincere apologies! I've been busy with GCSEs, but now that my results are in I thought I'd better show you what I've been doing in my spare time. First is a Hornby Railroad 'NE' van - which is actually a passable GWR 'V23' Mink Van. It'll get a repaint and some detailing in due time. Next are three open wagons which have had real coal loads fitted and minor weathering - the first is Dapol, and the third is Bachmann. The second was bought cheap and unboxed to practise my skills on (I think it's a Grafar but I can't be sure). The last two are more Dapol wagons - the moulded coal load was forced out, and I painted the interiors to better represent bare wood. Finally, to make up for the slew of Private Owner wagons, here's a taster of future projects from the nice people at Ratio and Parkside Dundas - stay tuned... Twright
They look very neat and I look forward to seeing the kits built. Will the grounded van be built as a grounded van or will it be mounted on a chassis.

Thanks for the compliment - I think the grounded van will be built on a chassis as it's an SR design and therefore not suitable for my planned layout. The only problem is finding the chassis - perhaps a Parkside Dundas one?
Twright
Or a Railroad one as they are cheap and can fit most wagons with a little adjustment.
RMweb Gold 46444 Posted August 26, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2013 Hi Mr B. Some nice work on this thread Re: the Ratio SR Grounded Van needing a chassis. Fortunately Ratio actually do the 10ft WB RCH chassis separately as a kit: Here's the link: http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/product/28301/560_Ratio_10ft_GWR_RCH_Wagon_Chassis_kit You'll need to source wheels and bearing cups though. Try here: http://www.hamodels.net/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=31 If you're looking for a GWR grounded van body I think the Coopercraft Mink may be your best option. Keep the posts coming. Cheers, Mark
Mr Brunel
I go, I come back... Re: the Ratio SR Grounded Van needing a chassis. Thanks very much, I'll bear that in mind - in the meantime another kit can be added to the list of future projects; I've bought a K's wagon kit to dip my toe into the world of soldering. Wish me luck...
Mr Brunel
I'd intended to show some more of my work in fairly short order - but alas, school work bogged me down. Such is life... To compensate, here are a few pictures of what I've been up to - including an illustration of the highly sophisticated system which I use for ensuring all-square bodies. 123330 (an unfitted V24 Mink) is the Hornby 'NE' van shown earlier in the thread, repainted with my usual mix of Humbrol and Precision Paints - transfers are a mix of Fox and Ratio leftovers. 123522 (a fitted V23 Mink) is a simple build of the good old Ratio kit.
