Short runs,One off Point of sale signs, museum information panels, exhibition signs etc: can be printed digitally Directly onto Foamex panels up to 8ft x 4ft as a standard size (larger sizes may be available.) This would seem to be a good way to produce a photo realistic background, that was ready printed onto a perfect surface, that was lightweight, required no mounting,waterproof, blemish free, no wrinkles bubbles etc. It can be printed with a matt finish onto matt foamex so no glare from lights. Combine this with low relief 3D printed buildings, and you could end up with a truly unique backscene. Just a quick look on the Web for Digital printing onto foamex, produced loads of results, with many giving a online quote. I hope this may be of use, and if it's been posted before apologies.
