matto21
After months and month of doing very little railway related, inspiration finally struck this weekend with the beginning of an idea for a layout. I went to Betws y Coed yesterday and I was looking along the platform when the idea hit me. I like the way that ByC used to be a much larger station, with much longer platforms and now, only a short section of the original platform is used with the rest overgrown and inaccessible. Link I started to think about a very simple terminus at the end of a hypothetical Welsh branch, a bit run down. The single track line emerging from under a bridge into the station [a portion of which would be totally overgrown]. The station building would also be out of use and boarded up a bit like Criccieth. I was also thinking about having an out of use, overgrown siding just to hint at the way things used to be. Link In terms of size, it would have to be similar to my previous layout, about 4 – 5’ in length for the scenic section with an additional, small ‘fiddle yard’ beyond the bridge. I have a Hornby Class 101 DMU that could be used [although it would need to be detailed and repainted into Blue/Grey livery]. I must stress that this is only an idea at present, I haven’t even been granted planning permission by SWMBO yet so the idea may fizzle out as all my other ideas have! If it does ever come into fruition, it would be something that I’d look to build in sections [i.e start by making some buildings then constructing a baseboard later] rather than start in the ‘normal’ way with the baseboards and track. I also feel that by doing it this way would allow me to develop it slowly over a longer period of time then if it does move on to being a reality and I encounter any planning resistance I can say ‘that’s a shame, I’ve built all these buildings….!’ I’m looking around for inspiration for a suitable station building, something similar in size to Criccieth but ideally I want something that’s brick. Whether or not this progresses any further remains to be seen, but I thought I’d share my idea! Thanks for looking Matt

Guest jonte
Pleased and relieved (feared your modelling mojo had gone for good) that you're considering a new layout, Matt, and another micro to boot. Like the idea btw. Here's one that your no doubt familiar with, although it wasn't a terminus (how about truncated?) the line does appear from under a bridge!! http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2410069 Will look forward to watching this one develop. Good to see you back, Jonte P.S. here's one of the bridge at t'other end of the platform http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:LNWR_0-6-0_near_Llangefni_c1936.jpg
Crisis Rail
Matto Yes I can understand the lack of inspiration - seem to have ideas underway then hit a brick wall either through quality or not being arsed I have 2 planks and 1 tailchaser on the go all planks "shelved" but not binned maybe concentrating on the layout when I can be arsed and in between domestic bliss. Still got this beauty? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/44406-diesel-depot-diorama-in-a-boxfile/&do=findComment&comment=483921 That gable end and doors are something else! Good to see you giving it a go on TD2. Ian

I'm not promising that this will become anything other than an idea but you never know! As far as Llangefni goes, and being local, I've long had a fascination with this station and the Anglesey branch in general. In years gone by I've spent many an hour planning layouts based on Llangefni and Llanerchymedd. Both are really cramped in terms of location [particularly the station/platform area] and the line emerges from a narrow bridge at both - I've always been surprised that this branch hasn't been modelled more.
