Anthony Ashley
I have commenced a data base based on over 1,400 magazines featuring British railways. I have created two data bases. One is Prototype and includes subject areas such as Prototype Stations, Prototype Locos. Operations, Train formations and many other subject areas. Each subject area is listed by topic within that subject ie Loco Prototypes is listed by wheel arrangement for steam and by class for diesel. The Modelling data base includes subjects such as Scenery, Fictional Stations, DCC, layout techniques, Loco reviews etc. The magazine name, year, month and page are also listed. Below is a small section of the scenery data base. Both are in excel. Anyone wanting a copy should reply to this entry with contact details. Those interested in my 35 feet X16 feet N gauge layout will find it under the tags Conwy, Penmaenmawr, Bangor. Anthony Ashley
The original post has removed the formatting for the example. In the original data base the information is set out in a table and is much easier to read. Regards, Anthony Ashley

RMweb Premium Andy Hayter Posted May 16, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 16, 2013 I have done similarly with around 5000 mainly continental magazine listing: Company/country/main topic - so could be LNER or France or Model then subject type - locomotive/station/genreral infrastructure then subject - specific information followed by check against text, article, drawing, whether just an information point (for example addresses of suppliers), superdetailing project, product review, comments and then details of the sorce material A typical example would be: BR Locomotive EM2 Y Y - - - Y Olivia's trains Railway Modeller 2013 May 420 The XL sort and filter functions make this a very powerful search tool
