That sounds complicated. No wonder I hear so many comments about getting lost around Milton Keynes. Given the right directions, it is the easiest town to navigate you will ever visit.

The roads & areas do all have names but these are meaningless compared to their numbers.

It really is very simple:

V (vertical) roads count up from west to east. The M1 is effectively V12 & V1 is over towards the Buckingham side of town.

H (horizontal) roads count up from north to south. H1 is near Wolverton & H11 near Bletchley.

Take 2 minutes to learn that & it is completely impossible to get lost on MK's grid. V & H roads are clearly marked at their intersecting roundabouts.

Shenley Brook End is between H6 & H7, V2 & V3. Best access is from H7.

RETURN SERVICES WILL RUN AT 15 AND 45 PAST EACH HOUR UNTIL 4.15PM.

Hope that helps and please pass it on!

Thanks, Ian

We are very pleased to announce that The Great Train Robbery layout, by Luton MRC and featured in February BRM, will be appearing at our exhibition on February 15th.

Although we recognise the controversial nature of the subject of this presentation, we have no intention of glorifying the robbery or its perpetrators. Rather, we believe this is an excellent diorama presentation which depicts the events of 8 August 1963 which are of historical importance. Furthermore, the robbery is of particular local historical interest for our exhibition as it took place close to what is now Milton Keynes, at Ledburn, Buckinghamshire.

We are delighted that the layout will be appearing as it is unusual, well-constructed and innovatively presented. If you have concerns about the subject matter, do please read the article in BRM where Nigel Adams from Luton MRC explains more about the layout. Please also keep in mind that some of our own club members are current or ex-railway employees, so we would not want to 'celebrate' the robbery in any way or consider it as anything other than a defining historical event.

Very well explained Ian.

We can't deny it happened and it did involve a train. So I, for one, would not consider it to be in 'bad taste' in any way.

Looking forward to seeing it.

There's some great layouts in the line-up and MKMRS have invited me to 'open' the show on Saturday which will be a pleasure as I've come to see how the club is thriving after a challenging year or so. Good on them!

Here's a little taster:

Norgate (N)

Feature2hdrS.jpg

Milton Quays (EM) - take the time to watch the operations, particularly the use of the carriage sidings.

Feature3s.jpg

Dentdale (N) - superb layout in a landscape by Wayne Webb
