RMweb Premium melmerby Posted July 14, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 14, 2013 Hi all Bog Jn has had a mixed life over the years, with traffic levels coming and going, depending on such factors as the health or not of the West Cumbria steel industries. Is it still used? This Google from May 2012 shows it rather rusty: https://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=54.88638,-2.930957&spn=0.001824,0.006137&t=k&z=18&vpsrc=6&layer=c&cbll=54.886525,-2.93093&panoid=-x_rwcBPMBj3P70QHJfjzw&cbp=12,104.14,,1,6.92 No signalling is apparent. Interestingly the nearest junction is still there long after the tracks to Rome Street Junction had been removed, the line petering out just under the Currock Road bridge (bottom left) It seems unlikely to me that there will ever be any track re-laid through the Rome St area. As the junction was removed when the track was rationalised in 1972 (The link to the M&C was removed) and re-instated when the junction was again altered in 1973, why was it not removed for a second time when the track was again re-arranged and the tracks to Rome Street removed? The tracks bottom right curve around to join the M&C passenger route from Citadel to W Cumbria. Also on Wigton Road (A595) the bridge abutments where one of the goods lines (Canal Branch, NER) crossed the road are still there, but they are quite low. How high was this bridge? Would it be to low for double deck buses? Keith Edited for clarity!
