RMweb Gold JCL Posted August 2, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 2, 2013 Hi there, I read a website called petapixel and I saw a blog entry about a 3D scanner that I thought that this might be of interest to someone. The scanner is at prototype stage. I'm afraid that I have no experience in this area, so I can't pass comment, but I thought you might find the idea interesting. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/45699157/fuel3d-a-handheld-3d-scanner-for-less-than-1000 cheers Jason
Nimbus
British research, plenty of british accents on the promo video, but being brought to market via the USA? What is wrong with us Brits? The Nim.
Etched Pixels
There isn't really a UK equivalent of kickstarter though - nor (because of our bonkers libel law) would anyone create one here. It would be commercial suicide. Alan
Tricky-CRS
You can put British projects on Kickstarter, I will be doing one soon. To date I have backed 25 projects on it mostly British.
doublecee
Im not convinced by this product at all. I think it is limited to the very examples they demo in the video. Faces I have never used anything other than a laser based scanning solution, and have yet to see any other approach that will convince me otherwise
Etched Pixels
3D distance sensing is likely to end up on phones and PCs in time anyway. You can do some fantastic things once you've got calibrated positional and video data such as extracting objects from scenes. The fact it'll be handy for 3D scanning is more of a lucky side effect. There are people doing this with the Kinect but the resolution is quite limited.
