Sturminster Marshall update

Recommended Posts

I thought it was about time I did a bit of an update as I haven't posted anything yet on the new incarnation of RM Web! As my skills are slowly developing I have decided to re-make the station building which is based on the one at Shillingstone. I was never very happy with the first attempt. The recent cold weather has given me the chance to get on as work outside is off the agenda :)

Below hopefully you will see progress so far. I have continued with using brick paper as I just can't seem to get on with plasticard. I find the relief on brickwork rather too deep and have difficulty getting a good colour rendition but that's just me, others seem to get an excellent effect.

hope you like the pics and comments as ever are welcomed.

Belated Happy New Year to all

Regards

Roger

Very effective Roger

Is this standard practice or a technique you've developed? Do you then use superglue to make the joins as well?

Thanks for the comments :)

10800. Read it somewhere! It certainly works, once dry the card can be filed to shape and sanded.

bike2steam. Working on it! ;)

Adams 442T. I use ordinary mounting card approx 1.3mm thick. Multiples as required and thiner card for details. I use A4 self adhesive labels to print out the layers and then combine them to produce the finished item. Hopefully the pics below make it clear.

Ben. Can we have some of your sunshine please it is b****y freezing here :( The goods shed was based on Sturminster Newton (your layout I believe) and built from a couple of photos so it is mainly made up.

Roger

Those blinded doors and windows are brilliantly done Roger, and you really demonstrate what can be done with card modelling. Very inspiring, thanks! :icon_thumbsup2:

I'll echo the call for more photos please :icon_wave:

Splendid work Roger - you've really captured the feel of the rarely modelled southern section of the S&D. I like your use of colour too! Any more pics of the rest of the layout?

Quite right Chris, the character of the S&D south of Templecombe makes it almost a different railway from the northern section. Corfe Mullen Jn would make be an interesting prototype to model, where the double track from Blandford becomes single to Broadstone.

Many thanks for the kind comments

A couple of pictures of the Signalbox completed before Xmas and a couple of the layout off the old post.

Blandford & Webb Lorry

post-7345-12632966052957_thumb.jpg

Gday Roger,

Nice lorry. I have recently just found a photo of a similar lorry (I think), parked at the rear of the Blandford +Webb building at Sturminster Newton. Its particular obscured by the 2 people standing in front of it, but from what I can see, the rear axle and tailgate, the paint scheme resembles yours, though my photo is in black and white. The vehicle registration in my photo is CPR 81. If you havent planted your lorry permanently yet, is there any chance you could send me photos (sides, front and rear) please. What type of lorry is it? I may be able to find an N gauge one. Also, how did make the signage on the sides and rear of the lorry; are they specially designed transfers or another method?

Thanks

Ben of Oz

A bit more progress on the Station Building. Next job is to start on the awning. Picture of the actual building also attached. Why is it when you do a site visit you never get the one picture you really need when you get home? :(
