Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
Aft'noon all, Many thanks to Jodel Aviator for including this image on his Flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/41668896@N06/8258225940/in/photolist-dzKyRS-bUq4w7-dwoJaF-dwugaW-8rWC8R-8JaQVz-7zrezQ-edjMxS-ede7De-edjLAw-edjMJC-bF8kMv-82Xr2y-9jezK9-7zrewY-8tK1R1-9N5qz7-9Mmork-9Mmnu6-bpAutq-9Mpccs-cvN7Gs-ci5Bo9-aVY2Tx-9tHuit-dULHnT-by4F4c-bmjWGk-dvDoSq-c5Hq5W-ee1dRa-9YPnRx-a58ArK-8y7Fwr-8s8fZj-ede7NR-ecDmnZ-8QK1Px-bAn4fW-cgFPv9-bk9Q29-dvznF9-cXT7U5-cEEBHs-dcMKjT-byz2AR-9F2nZj-apg92d-apdwsz-apgoAJ-cgTiH7 ...we often drive along the road shown in the picture on our outings into Rutland, or else as part of a long cross-country holiday route to Felixstowe but until now I'd been unable to find a good colour picture of the station. The station buildings and footbridge still stand but a fence obscures the view from the former level crossing. Just a short distance further on the road passes beneath the arches of Harringworth viaduct. His excellent colour Cromford & High Peak Railway set of pictures warrants your attention too. cary hill
A good find. I seem to recall the trackbed beyond the station is home to the delightful Seaton Salvage company.
Arthur
Lovely photo Dave, interesting to see all that greenery in the ballast, we usually think of it as being kept immaculate in years past.
Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
....various aspects of the picture are appealing to me Arthur: the faded elegance but 'completeness' of the station the figure on the footbridge gazing towards the vanishing point naturally leads your eye through the picture the presence of the branch train confirms that this is still a working railway although the stop signals at danger and encroaching flora hint at there being little time left the chatting figures complete the scene and underline the inactivity at such branchline stations until the main event arrives, when the occasional, period of hustle and bustle takes over lovely scene...timeless and very appealing. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted August 15, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 15, 2013 although the stop signals at danger and encroaching flora hint at there being little time left Probably explained by the level crossing being shut ... A cracking photo though.
