RMweb Premium 7013 Posted August 28, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 28, 2013 I have been gifted the above loco, however both front buffers are broken. I know what the replacements look like but I am not sure of the GWR style. Could anyone in the know tell me what style they are and where I could source replacements? Thanks in anticipation
buffalo
Photos of 1361 as built in works grey show what looks like a shorter form of the Dean/Churchward taper buffer. A 1934 Swindon drawing confirms this. This photo shows the normal length Dean/Churchward type on 1363 in preservation. However, 1950 photos of 1362 and 1365 show Collett parallel buffers (as on the loco behind 1363 in the wikimwedia photo). These parallel buffers are unlikely to have been fitted before the mid thirties, and could well be post-war. Alan Gibson does sprung versions of both of these (and the Collett taper type). IIRC, Markits also do these. Nick
