New templates from C&L in 00, EM and P4

C&L have finally released a huge new range of printed track templates, created by Len Newman:

These are excellent REA bullhead template drawings with full chair detail. If you scan these templates (private use only) and load them into Templot as picture shapes, you can overlay the Templot equivalents and create fully chaired versions of your Templot track plans. (For curved turnouts, use the image wrapping function in the background shapes to curve the scanned image to match.)

Here I have done that with the P4 B-8 template and overlaid the equivalent Templot template. To create that in Templot, change to a generic-type V-crossing and convert RAM to CLM crossing angles.

I'm hoping these few example screenshots fall within fair dealing for copyright. These templates represent years of work by Len Newman -- please be sure to buy the templates and not copy them from others. Some of the P4 templates are available as free PDF downloads for members of the Scalefour Society, including this one.

I changed the image to a low-contrast negative image because I find it easier to work over, but that is entirely optional:

In these close-ups, everything in grey is from the C&L template, everything in colour is from Templot. You can see that the rails match very well. There is a slight mis-match in a few of the timber positions. They can be easily shoved into alignment if a perfect match is important for you.

Here is the first page of the Templot print-out with the grid and red trim lines. Remember to select the option to include picture shapes in the output (it is off by default). I set the timber infill to "none" so that the chairing detail is visible:

edit: Here is part of a chaired B-8 curved crossover at 7ft way, using the image wrapping function on these C&L templates:

I posted more about all this and some download files on the Scalefour forum at:

Because of copyright there is a limit to how much of the process I can illustrate here.

regards,

Martin.
