I was lucky enough - after a written request was made well, before I was due - to be granted a footplate ride in Green Goddess with John Snell in the spring of 1988.  An unforgetable privledge and experience.

The OH&S jobsworths wouldnt have a bar of it, these days, I bet.

Evening David,

Your signal box it looking superb, I just hope mine turns out half as good.

Question:

How did you find the main walls for bowing? Did you feel the need to add additional support/bracing?

Both my medium box and the large box, appear to have a slight bow in the components alone, but there is no bow and no added support in the medium box that I've built.

Once again, excellent work

Jinty ;-)

love the signal box.

wondering (and apologies if you've answered this before somewhere in this epic thread) when you will be doing the ballasting? I am quite looking forward to that, yes.

Hello fender,  Thanks for the kind comment 's.

I've had no part in the build of the box, it has been down to Lofty sr, but I have learned a lot, from watching and taking pic's..........

DP, was ballasted last year, but because my trackwork, I thought,poor.............I took it up last Christmas, and relaid, what you see now.

I have an unusual twist to it, so I can remove the platform's if need be..

Here is last year's effort's....3 different attempt 's

I think that looks pretty good. Can't see from the pics anything particularly off about it, apart from the colour in comparison to the real life photos. surely, though, a little weathering, airbrushing? if it was the colour you didn't like then hopefully that won't be too hard to fix for the next time.

tbh, if I didn't know I was supposed to be looking at the ballast in those pics then I probably wouldn't have even noticed it. I think ballast is bad when it's the first thing that hits you when you look at a photo (massively overscale, garish colours etc)

otoh, your attention to detail is providing many great things and I'm sure redoing the ballasting (again) will be for the best when it's finished. :)

If you look at both tracks, a couple of inches in front of the tunnel mouth, you will see they have deviation's and a few wiggle's,further into the platform's, causing

zero clearance,in small area's at the platform edge.

Thanks for posting Jinty.............

"We" have not had any problems with any of the component's nor in the assembly.

"We" have, written everything down, from taking the part's from the box to the stage where we are at, but purposely  not place the text on the build thread.

There have been are couple of minor niggle's, but prefer to give Jakub, who manufacturer 's the product's, the benefit of the doubt first.

Will get back to you later this evening............
