RJL
While in the area this summer we visited Kettleness on the North Yorks coast. As we walked along the disused line between Hinderwell and Kettleness we notice earthworks which looked like they were old sidings. I think there was a ironstone mine very close to the site which was only worked for a short period between 1910 and 1913 by the Skinningrove Iron Company I'm not sure if there were any buildings on the site or even if the siding were actually laid down a little further down the line from the earthworks an occupational bridge crosses the trackbed and looks like two lines could pass underneath. as any one got any more info on this site as I have read most of the books which tell the history of the line from Whitby to Loftus and there is very little mentioned. Below are a few photos which were taken on my visit. Photos 1 and 2 earthworks at the side of the old line. In photo two you can also see a possible spoil heap. Photo 3 The bridge looking towards Hinderwell.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted October 27, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2013 I would assume there would be a siding/sidings somewhere, as for the bridge, most, if not all bridges over single track lines on the NER were built for double track, just in case!
