Herr Dienstleiter
Another European ng line of which I am very fond is the Scharfbergbahn which climbs the modest Alp behind St Wolfgang: when we were there it was stifling hot so going up the mountain was the sensible thing to do. WIthin one hour we had brilliant sunshine, a squall, more sunshine, deep mist, bier and very good chocolate gateaux. The line has recently been re-equipped with newly designed rack engines that are very high tech indeed - oil-burners with electric pre-heating and all the valve gear is belt driven, very smooth and quite fast. If you want to be battered around you can pay extra and go on the heritage train!
