Gene
Ok...probably a dumb question but what colour should I paint some fire irons...I'm assuming plain black? Would they be carried on a Jinty? If so then presumably on the top of the side-tanks? Cheers Gene
brossard
I would make them black. Perhaps rub a silver pencil on the shovel and other places where you might get wear. It they are brass I like to chemically blacken instead of paint. (I got some chemical black at Hobby Junction on Saturday). I think the logical place for them on a Jinty is the tank top. You can just see them in this pic: http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/lms/lnwrrm969.htm John
SRman
Agreeing with John, above, except that sometimes I use a little gunmetal colour either instead of, or in addition to, the silver. While the silver is probably more correct for the bare metal, I find it can look a little too stark in contrast with the black.
brossard
Yes, I agree, even grimy black. Pretty hard to get this wrong. John
micklner
I do mine with Halfords red oxide, frame dirt and a bit of silver . Never seen ones painted normally very rusty and bent.
