Strathore Yard

Hi all

My first N gauge layout and have started building an end to end layout inspired by Thornton Yard in the mid 1990's early 2000's mgr coal trains in both HAA's and MEA's as well as Cerestar starch tanks.

Space is short so will be modelling one area of the yard where the unloading of the Starch onto trucks took place there will be a siding for locos running round so will have 5 or 6 wagons but a scenic break will make it look like a full train there will be a couple of sidings behind this for that will not be wired up for storage of mgr hoppers and some redundant wagons.

Strathore yard is the main freight centre in Fife and has recently seen an upturn in traffic coal is now loaded at the yard MGR trains are the mainstay of the busy yard with loaded and empty trains form local power stations at Longannet and Cockenzie and coal is loaded here for power stations in Yorkshire. Methil power station receives coal slurry in MEA wagons. As well as reiciving coal Longannet also dispatches fly ash to Westbury cement works.
In addition in this part of the yard there are 2 sidings dedicated to the unloading of starch onto trucks this is bound for local papermills at Auchmuty and Leslie. There are also ballast and engineers trains when required.

Regards

Dave
