Motor Books closing

Motor Books in Cecil Court off the Charing X Road (in London) is closing on 19 October having opened in 1957. Its not a model shop, I know, but has always been a very good railway (and other transport) bookshop.

Stock is being sold off at half price, apart from new books, and they are only taking cash at the moment - no cards.

Yet another specialist shop of interest to us modellers is disappearing - a sad loss.

Having spent some forty seven years working in Holborn, I have seen the demise of Gamages, Bassett-Lowke, Beatties, Modelzone and now Motor Books and possibly St Martins Models. I spent more time (and money) in St Martins Models (having amassed a 150+ collecton of Ferrari cars - now boxed in the loft, as the interest waned). Motor Books was a lunch-time visit looking for early copies of Autocourse (the F1 Bible) - I have from 1968 to date, but am considering giving that up. The usual reasons of high business rents and online shopping will continue to kill-off small specialist shops.
