John do you know what has brought on all this memorial thing for the Tay Bridge, seems rather odd that it has suddenly just sort of 'happened'?

Reading the memerial today is the anniversary of the disaster.

No Mike - apart from the 134th anniversary today I only knew about it from the photographer's Facebook posts yesterday.

Posting on Facebook from Corinne Mills Photography

Stuart Morris of Balgonie , the son of the Laird of Balgonie, whose great-great-great grandmother died in the Tay Rail Bridge tragedy led the campaign for a memorial to be erected - this is him by one of the stones today with Lady Balgonie. It has taken 4 years of fundraising and liaising with the authorities for the Tay Rail Bridge Memorial Trust to achieve this. Well done to all involved

Thanks Jamie - it just struck me as strange that it should be this year instead of one of the more traditional anniversary years such as 100th or 150th etc - the link makes that a lot clearer.

I thought that after I made my post but I couldn't read the year so had no idea if it was one of the significant ones.
