This week we have now virtually finished all the ballasting and have also now finalised the sizes and shapes of the remaining  buildings in the town area so a start can be made next week to get these constructed.

Also the low relief factory buildings we finished making last week are now having their final coat of weathering so that they can hopefully be installed on the layout  next week

Thanks we are getting to stage where various building projects are coming together so we can hit our September deadline for the first outing for the layout at our 50th Anniversary exhibition on 16th and 17th of that month

Work has started again on the main building in the town which will be a 1960's shopping centre or rather the front section of one (the remainder will be off scene). Unlike most of the other building the basic structure will be thin MDF. This is for strength because of the size of the building to avoid any problems with the structure distorting if we used card.

Because of the way each of the baseboards are constructed with an integrated lighting unit fitted above each of them means we can control both the light and thus the atmosphere we create when the layout is on show. Lighting in venues at exhibitions differ immensely so we think this will help to create a consistent display at every show we take the layout to.

It is good the layout is creating some positive feedback even before it has attended its first exhibition.

Like the yellow Toad - did it require a respray?

Hi SVRlad

The former GWR toad brake van started life as a standard Bachmann model that was produced in yellow. It has however been detailed inside and weathered
