RMweb Gold fishytrains Posted October 19, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 19, 2017 Just spent a very enjoyable time reading through the thread. I like what you have done with the layout. Simple, yet very effective. Mike

Reddibus
Thanks for all the comments on the layout The reality with the location we have been careful to say it is somewhere in England. However there are pictures that make up the backscene thus far (still work to do) are made up of pictures that we have taken Behind the station the tops of the buildings are made up of pictures taken of Worcester from the end of the platforms at Foregate Station, the Church is Hanbury Church and there are pictures of buildings from both Redditch and Hereford that make up the rest of the town. from the Smallwood team Edited October 22, 2017 by Reddibus

Reddibus
Work this week has centred on the replacing one of the points in the station. For some reason the blades on the original point got damaged. Being the position it is it was easier to cut the old point out and replace it with a new one. It would have been difficult to see when the layout was on show at the Redditch exhibition because the station canopy covers the area but we had glued the old point up so we could run trains over it. It did mean we could not run trains around in the station. from the Smallwood team

Reddibus
A most unlikely visitor to Smallwood. One of our Club members has just weathered the locomotive and was keen to use part of the layout as a backdrop for a picture - This is certainly a one off !!!
Liam
Pity. But I suppose the layout could be backdated to the steam era, and the location transferred to somewhere like Wolverhampton, where the GWR was on the lower level and the LMS on the high level. danstercivicman
I do like the idea of steam populating Smallwood . Agreed above you have a very Wolverhampton feel to this awesome layout

The weathering looks brilliant and I am glad to see the layout convert to steam :)

Reddibus
Just to show we are still making progress with our Smallwood layout. The following are a few early morning shots at Smallwood The first shows the platforms with the GPO van delivering some mail bags and with lights on at the Travellers Fare they must be open for business The second shows the Rusty Anvil Pub which must have had an all night lock in

lmsforever
The canopy is a masterpiece of decrepitude just as it was in days of yore ,at first look I thought you had found a photo of some 1960,s station !
Reddibus
Hi The station canopy is totally scratch built. The shape is created from curved sections cut from thick card that were used as the outer parts of cable drums. The glazing is made from plastic sheet with the glazing bars added with strips of black tape. The whole thing is weathered. There was much debate amongst club members on how much weathering should be done but we think we have just got it right. We have put the lights in the station buildings in an attempt to brighten this area of the layout up. From the Smallwood team
