Budget DCC HST - doing without lights

Yet more questions from this clueless newby! I am slowly chipping my n gauge stock and now come to my Dapol HST. The lights on the unpowered car are a bit dodgy and I can't say it's ever bothered me on DC. To save a bit of cash I'm wondering about doing without lights to start with so I only have to buy one decoder.

But does this mean that the unpowered car is now like a DC loco on DCC with all those problems? Can I just run it without a chip or do I need to so something else?

Thanks

Remove the DCC blanking plug from the dummy car. This will disconnect the lights from the track feeds. No lights but no other problems either! If you leave the plug in place you'll end up with both white and red lights on at the same time (assuming they both work!).

Happy modelling.
