Richard Pike
Good Afternoon, Time to introduce my new layout that is currently under construction. Until recently I lived alongside the Aberdeen line at Portlethen, this gave me an appetite to model the line, particularly due to the interesting range of trains such as the Caledonian sleeper, East Coast HST's, DRS Tesco train, Silver bullets, Cement, Pipes etc as well as a variety of DMU's. My ultimate aim is to model Craiginches container and cement terminals but current space restrictions don't permit that until I have completed my loft conversion, so as a short term stop gap, I have decided to model Portlethen Station. Current layout is a tail chaser 12' x 7', the scenic section will be 9' x 2' the rest of the layout being fiddle yard etc. The track plan is probably the least creative ever modelled, just two straight lines through the station, although longterm I will incorporate this section into the larger layout planned. Layout will be DCC, currently controlled by a Bachmann Dynamis but I have a Hornby Elink that I am favouring. Got all the main trackwork installed, all Peco code 100, just a little to finish in the fiddle yard, so far really pleased with the track work, trains are running very well, with no derailments. Have already started building the Southern end bridge and Platforms, hope to get the track ballasted in the next few days. I will attach a couple of photo's to give everyone an idea of progress so far once I have figured out to rotate them correctly. Richard Pike
Had a couple of productive days, got the primary ballasting completed, platforms located, bridge sited and started on the scenery profiles. Would have got more done but fitted sound decoders to my East Coast HST's and started weathering a rake of Auto ballasters and some ASDA containers.
Richard Pike
Been away from home in Aberdeen for the last week but managed to make good progress this weekend, got the primary scenery plastered and painted, track weathered and this morning got the platform tops in place. This afternoon actually got time to run a few trains.
