shortliner
Can you use it for a mould, without disturbing the contents?
Satan's Goldfish
I did debate that, but stripping down the top leaves a nice mount for the light in the top of the light house too. She said she would try and use it quickly....... Edit: change of plan just emptied one of 'the girls' cans, smells interesting in here now!
Satan's Goldfish
For those that were wondering, this is what 300 palm trees and an unpainted lighthouse looks like: Will be working on the boat again next so it may be a while before they get fitted. Satan's Goldfish
So what did you do on holiday then?........ There's a lot of filing, gluing and painting to do here! And from the rear. After initial construction, I ran it past my dad who used to work at sea a lot. His first comment was 'the stacks look to wide.' I told him the scale and how wide they worked out at, he told me to half them!....... well the tops have been halved anyway. There's a lot of detail to add still, like doors, stair ways, hand rails, etc. The container racks for the side of the main deck can also be seen, these just require properly sticking together and painting. There's also a couple of smaller items ready to be some bow details.
Satan's Goldfish
Some more of the same now in better light and containers added. Starting at the bow, the frame for to 20s and 30s is 1 brick too narrow so some alteration is needed, there's a winch and 'flag' for the front, and the white triangle block will be access stairs (plasticard door required). All the lego conectors will be filed down smooth once gluing is done. Moving back along the frames, containers sit nicely and the bridge house is just higher than the maximum high-cube load. Lots of gluing required to stick these together! The hull has received a good sanding smooth and now carefully thinner coats of paint have started to be applied to remove the last of the lumps. Still lots of boxes required to fill the ship!
Satan's Goldfish
Some colour. Bow and side container 'racks' have been stuck together now but not stuck to the hull until I've finished painting it.

Satan's Goldfish
That is looking really good mate. I'm real impressed with the job you've done. cheers bud, it almost looks like a ship! The hull seems to be taking for ever to paint. I still need to wire up the track then work on scenery.
Satan's Goldfish
A little more update stuff. top deck is now painted and I've moved onto the sides. The black squares on the deck have been lined up with the side frames for the central containers to sit in the right place. White on the sides is ready for masking off for white paint job details. back in the box, some test planting of palm trees the lighthouse. Lighthouse still needs a lot of detail and neater paint, and I want to get the track running before sticking trees down. This is just a clearance test, when finished it should be full of trees with just a gap at the front to see trains briefly on the cliff.

Satan's Goldfish
Eventually figured out how to take apart the old Arnold railbuses, they're now mostly blue with dark grey roofs. Motor checked, despite being older than me it still Runs, which is nice. Next transfer run I'll make some suitably tropical decals for them. bit more paint for the lighthouse, dark grey-ish roof on it now and a small extra red band. This is still just a deoderant can with spray paint on at the moment, I might add a more pointy circular roof to it though. ship painting plods on, getting pretty bored of that now. Started smoothing parts of the bridge house as a distraction.
Satan's Goldfish
Finished painting the hull of the ship, as neat as I'll ever get it anyway, and fixed on the lego parts. the bridge house is smoother now too with some paint added. be rude not to add some containers. Satan's Goldfish
Cheers guys, i'm quite chuffed with how it's come together, all the weeks of layers of paint were worth it! Even though it's a completely freelance design, just stumbled over this vessel which isn't far off at all: http://www.workboatsinternational.com/container-ship-bbs1501.html I may need a few more aerials though. Satan's Goldfish
The ship yard 'painters' have been busy again and applied the name on the rear and each side: suitable railings and steps have been located to make it all a bit more h&s friendly, I just need to wait for the next financial period...... The boy had a good idea for some ficticious re-branded containers, a little light internetting revealed a variety of different logo's for this company to represent different eras so I have a selection of transfers made up ready for some unique additions. Finally, an impending port of call is due to see a fresh load of containers stacked on in the next couple of weeks from Warren Lane before it makes its way off to the Caribbean. A big thank you to Alan and Phil for clearing the latest load through customs!
Satan's Goldfish
Got some 45ft boxes! And despite my dodgy lego maths they fit! I wouldn't want to be in the bridge house when they're being loaded though :-/ At least 2 are already earmarked for rebranding....

Satan's Goldfish
There has been a large delivery of another 20+ containers ready for shipment from Warren Lane and Porthcressa-on-Sea, mostly 40ft boxes, a big thank you to Alan and Phil for those to help fill the ship. The Hattons fairy has also delivered a lot of Plastruct railings and stairways so soon Health and Safety can look a little less critically at the Viking. Unfortunately i'm having internet problems at home again so it may be a while before images appear.
