RMweb Premium Roger Sunderland Posted March 6, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2014 Hi guys. A friend of mine wants to try and re create a recent holiday by running a model of the loco that pulled his train. The loco is a B8 4-6-0, number 240, built by the Hunslet company in Leeds. The loco actually runs on broad gauge track but he runs oo scale. Does anybody know if a model exists of this type of loco, a B1 or B2 would do equally as well. I can't provide a picture but there are pics on the internet. Locos from other countries that look similar would be considered as a base.

EddieB
If it helps, there are dimensioned side elevation engineering drawings of all these types in David Hyatt's book "Railways of Sri Lanka". Unfortunately the B8s are described as "unusual" having a narrow, high-pitched boiler. The B1s were more conventional and the B2s were tank+tender locomotives. All had outside cylinders. I can't think of any similar locos available in model form. However, it may help to give the leading chasis dimensions: B1D: Bogie 3'0 1/2" Φ x wheelbase 6'10" + 4'81/2", drivers 4'5 1/2" Φ wb 5'0" + 5'0" B2: Bogie 3'0 1/2" Φ x wheelbase 6'0" + 5'0", drivers 4'5 1/2" Φ wb 5'0" + 5'0" B1: Bogie 2'6" Φ x wheelbase 5'2" + 4'41/2", drivers 4'0" Φ wb 4'8" + 5'0"
