Yes, it's that time again, England v Wales at the old cabbage patch (aka 'H.Q.' or 'Twickers')

 

52 years on, it's hard to imagine the effort BR put into evacuating the Valleys in days gone by, but here's an example of the  services provided for the  fixture played on Saturday 20th. January, 1962.

I'm afraid that much of the Welsh language is quite beyond me but any lingo where "moron" means "carrots" must have something going for it.

 

That was by the by.  Brian's post is a staggering illustration of how able the railways were in 1962 to cope with demand.  Imagine such lavish provision now.

No records of what was on the front of those trains?

 

As regards chrisf's post: aye, they go to smaller fixed formations, then are seemingly suprised that a) there are more people complaining of standing and b), they can't put on extra trains, coaches etc to cope with demand.

 

Good job it's not really a business....oh...wait...

A former boss of mine used phrases like "squeezing the assets" and "re-shaping the jelly"  until she first heard the common or garden Welsh phrase "'you're talking b@llocks !"
