That was by the by. Brian's post is a staggering illustration of how able the railways were in 1962 to cope with demand. Imagine such lavish provision now. As regards chrisf's post: aye, they go to smaller fixed formations, then are seemingly suprised that a) there are more people complaining of standing and b), they can't put on extra trains, coaches etc to cope with demand.
