Thanks for this! Certainly brings back memories for me. I was at Leeds from 1972 to 1978 and working the goods traffic was the highlight of the week. It gave me practical railway operations and engineering skills that I still use today.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting that piece of film Sir Douglas.

The track laying gang had me laughing as I am sure that I have worked on a building site with them once (there's an element of farce about it).  The builders in question must have seen the bit where the PW gang use a loco to drag part of a point and applied it to their situation in hand:  too lazy to remove steel window frames the slow and proper way, they tied the frames to the rear axle of their van, and pulled.  Worked the first couple of times but on the third occasion they pulled the front out of the building.  The team left the site at speed.  Anyway, back on topic it's a really interesting and useful bit of film.  Good find.

Regards,

Alex.
