Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
Aft'noon all, Having just seen the TV image of David Beckham appearing with two of the retro dressed...think earliest 'Only Fools & Horses' garb...heros of my younger years I was wondering why it left me feeling disturbed. Did anyone else find the experience less than positive? Dave
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted March 16, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2014 No worse that if I put on a striped Tank Top, 40" flares (leg bottoms. not waist) and a Mungo Jerry wig. Edit - forgot to mention the multi-coloured platform shoes.
RANGERS
Unless I've missed a discovery of earth shattering significance, none of us are getting any younger...
RMweb Premium Colin Posted March 16, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2014 I think I understand the OP's point - they looked a bit pathetic really, like an ancient rock band that won't retire gracefully. I used to love Only Fools & Horses but missed several of the later episodes - didn't Del Boy and Rodney end up mega-rich in the end?
Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
....I'm still trying to work out whether my concern is that I must be so much older too, or whether it is always a mistake to try to go back in time....in this instance several decades. If I hadn't enjoyed the original shows so much then I probably wouldn't have paid any attention but some of the original scenes still count amongst my favourite TV moments. RMweb Premium Colin Posted March 16, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2014 The scene with the chandelier, and when Del Boy falls through the gap in the bar are some of the best ever!
Brian D
Is it only me that thinks that perhaps "Del Boy" has had a bit of cosmetic surgery?

RMweb Premium phil-b259 Posted March 16, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2014 I think I understand the OP's point - they looked a bit pathetic really, like an ancient rock band that won't retire gracefully. I used to love Only Fools & Horses but missed several of the later episodes - didn't Del Boy and Rodney end up mega-rich in the end? Yes they did - and that should have been the end of things. A few years later though the BBC bought it back so naturally they had to lose all the money so they could move back to Peckham and in my opinion it didn't work with me being left with the feeling that it was merely repeating the earlier jokes and lacked any originality compared to when the show started. coachmann
The Sweeney, Professionals, Minder, Fools & Horses etc were products of their time and are best left there IMV. Tele wrings every ounce of excessive sentimentality out of everything these days. Not my scene but there we are.

RMweb Gold stovepipe Posted March 16, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2014 It's for Sport Relief I believe, thankfully a one-off. I like a lot of types of comedy, but I never found these two in the slightest bit funny.
