RMweb Premium figworthy Posted April 4, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 4, 2014 I had another go at this today. I cut a long thin slice off the sheet of brass, and after giving it a quick brush over with some flux, tried to tin it. This was successful. I then placed a piece of angle against it (holding it with wooden clothes pegs), and with another drop of flux was able to solder the two pieces together. So far, so good. I think we can conclude that there is nothing wrong with the brass. I then tried to unsolder the two bits, bit I was unable to get enough heat into it to soften the solder. I think that proves that the problem is that the iron isn't able to supply enough heat. Many thanks to those who have contributed to this thread.
