Abandoned rails in the road.....(or elsewhere...)
figworthy replied to 33C's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
That drags me back 30 years. I forget who the company was (they eventually ended up as part of Virgin), but they spent ages digging up all the pavements in the area putting in cable. At the time, I had a flat, so a group of us asked the freeholder if we could get connected up. He came back some time later and said no. We assumed that was because he couldn't work out how to make something out of it. I subsequently got talking to a colleague who's girlfriend worked for the company. It turned out that they had spent so much money on digging the road up, that they couldn't afford to make any complicated connections, which we would have been. Adrian -

And the cake. Do not forget the cake. Adrian -
Last year, our usual postie asked me to take in a parcel for next door. The resident genius had left a note on the door asking for parcels to be left in the recycling box. When he came around to collect it, I asked him why he thought it was a good idea. "I couldn't think of anywhere else" was the answer. Adrian

Just remember where the B Ark ended its journey. Adrian

Almost true. 40 years ago, the local council had the privilege of employing me. We had a parking area at work resurfaced, and there was more on the lorry than they needed. That evening, chatting to my father, he mentioned that someone had turned up late that afternoon with some spare tarmac, and did he want his parking area doing. Adrian

Presumably not to be confused with the neighbouring Wisbleat and Upwool. Adrian

Heading into London last night, it looked as thought Dominique's London end was resting on the first pier after the canal span, so perhaps they've started moving it across for the next section. Adrian

I'm pleased to report that my subscription copy arrived at the Manor House this morning. That accounted for this afternoon's lack of activity. Adrian

I got a mention for my suggestion on the play list challenge some time ago. Unfortunately, the mention was followed by the suggestion that I go for a walk, which I thought was a bit harsh. Adrian

Somewhere on (I think) youtube, is a video that someone took of one of the train simulator programs that had been set up as a model of Hartley Bank, showing the trains running backwards and forwards from the colliery to the exchange siding (just off the top of the screen shot). Adrian

Burton Green was on the LNWR (rather than GCR). Adrian

Not entirely. I made an appointment at the doctors last month (yes you can get them). Unfortunately the receptionist forgot to ask who I was, and the penny didn't drop until I was half way home. When I went back for the appointment, rather than use the electronic sign in thingy, I spotted the same receptionist, and pointed out that I had an appointment, but did she know who I was ? Adrian

Sounds like one of the following fits the bill : https://theclassicpedalcarcompany.co.uk/ https://www.pedalcar.org.uk/ Both seem suitably low tech. Adrian
