DelawareAndHudson
Maybe I missed mention of this here so I was even more surprised to learn about it on NBC News home page. http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/model-train-fans-steam-london-festival-n60166 Jason Cook New Haven, Indiana

DelawareAndHudson
Great to put faces to names. Given the distance between Indiana and England, I'm not likely to run into many of you at a train show or trackside. Jason

Not sure of the point of PR after the event.
Fenman
Along with pretty dumb captioning (to be expected) Funny how many images captures the 'participant' intervention of the hand of god rather than the exquisite modelling. Not sure of the point of PR after the event. I think you are misinterpreting: the Guardian photos are not for you or me or for the people who already inhabit RMweb; they are for people who know nothing about railway modelling other than a few tired stereotypes and prejudices. For them, I think the gallery of images is rather lovely, and the "human" side showing people interacting with their models and awe-struck children's faces is probably bang on the mark. How else do you propose we light a spark of interest in someone who knows nothing about the hobby already? Not everything is done for our benefit. I remember someone actually criticising the quality of the images in the last broadsheet gallery of one of our shows when, to my eyes, they looked exciting and fun. Exactly what I'd want to see in a non-specialist publication. Jesus: if we only want to talk to ourselves, why don't we ban the media from attending these events? Although, now I think about it, that might play up to the stereotype of us being boring nerds with a strong anti-social streak! Paul

Glorious NSE
Why would folk in this hobby want to denigrate any article that shows us in a positive light, it's a rare enough approach in the media!
RMweb Premium Legend Posted March 24, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2014 Even got a mention in Radio 2s Chris Evans show . He'd seen it in Guardian and wished he had gone with his son
trisonic
Well spotted. If Ray was in the Grauniad was he "Lawn Gyland Jock" ????? I think we should be told...........Mabel. Actually the "Hand of God" shots are a well known ploy in the Mainstream Press to indicate scale of model to person. Best, Pete.
Pacific231G
Ah yes! I forgot the rag is intended for the average Guardian Reader. I'm sure a lot of RMWEB users also read the Guardian so what's your point? BTW If the captions seem to be stating the obvious that's because they are. They're mainly there to enable future archive searches.
Mike Boucher
That's better than the last national coverage. A nightly satirical "news" show invaded a show in New Jersey a few years ago to "train" their correspondents how to handle a large political convention...http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/media/content/weekend-funny-daily-show-prepares-rnc-tampa-terrorizing-model-train-convention
