Spots in Cornwall

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure how popular this will be, but I thought a thread on the spots for filming and photography in Cornwall will be a good idea.

Anyway, here's some of my locations

Largin viaduct

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/search/largin+viaduct/@50.4524721,-4.5705252,15z

Best for shots going Eastbound, there's a broken fence on the road after the nasty bridge (you'll know when you see it) There is also a good spot on the rail over road bridge if you go up on the embankment next to the road, no pictures of that yet.

Moorswater viaduct

Best for shots going Westbound, especially good for filming as it's a long shot. Located on a pedestrian bridge, the sides of which are a bit high however. Theres a good shot for eastbound, but you'll probably need some step ladders to get a bit of extra height. Shots below are of trains going west.

Restormel

In the shadow of Restormel castle, it is on a pedestrian/farm track bridge. Decent shots in both directions

With respect, with all that Cornwall has to offer especially with the current superb weather, standing by the side of railway lines should be the last option.

We took a walk around Pentire Head in North Cornwall this morning, and you will find nothing adjacent to any railway in Cornwall 10% as breathtaking as the coastal views we saw.

As a (relatively new) resident of Cornwall, I'll always be interested in the railway aspects of its heritage, but I'd be the last to say that they can rival the incredible landscape.

Take a break from railways and see what else life has to offer - especially on holiday.

Regards,

John Isherwood.

Hi

As regards the above post sadly it 'aint always beautifully sunny & warm in Kernow !!!!!!(The phrase liquid sunshine springs to mind....Quite common in the Duchy)

I think hornbyandbf3fan's idea is a good one for those days when the weather isn't what it might be & also for visitors to our Glorious Country of Kernow who would like to take a pic or two of trains in locations they otherwise wouldn't know about when they might be on their way to some other superb scenic viewpoint.......

Sadly most of my pictures are taken from known locations around Redruth/Camborne so I for one will foolw with interest.....

EXCELLENT idea....

Cheers Bill

If you do what I did yesterday and spend the day on Porthminster Beach you can combine trainspotting and fabulous scenery. Granted there's not much variety in the trains seen!

'Daddy it's another purple train' my son shouted excitedly every half hour. 'It looks a bit like the last one'.....
