RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted January 28, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2010 26 January 2010 Thanks to various people I got to hear that the GBRF hauled gypsum from Fiddlers Ferry Power Station - Newbiggin was to use Ellesmere Port yard (not unusual, it's done it before) during daytime (unusual B) ) - I took a risk that it would be on time, had a late lunch and headed to Helsby to eat it, The obligatory hippo shot. 175111 on 1D37, 12:50, Manchester Piccadilly - Llandudno The GBRF was booked to follow this, I was waiting for the points to change and ... nothing for what seemed like an eternity (about 10 minutes !) but eventually over they went, off came the signal and this rolled into view. 66731 on 4C77, 12:45, Fiddlers Ferry Power Station - Newbiggin gypsum - via Ellesmere Port (rev) A further hippo during the brief time the 66/7 was "away" 175009 on 1H88, 12:44, Llandudno - Manchester Piccadilly I got a bit excited when the signal cleared with no passenger train due, but I had forgotten the empty stock for the Ellesmere Port shuttles, nice to see one of the 150s in advertising livery, this one was The Blues Festival (http://www.bluesfestival.co.uk/) 150272 on 5D39, 13:38, Liverpool Lime Street - Chester ECS <pause for a further hippo to pass> Eventually the signal off the branch cleared and the GBRF returned The next day (27 January) the unit drag was due to Birkenhead, work meant I couldn't get out for long, but fortunately a mate was down the line and let me know when the drag passed, meaning I could drive a couple of miles to Storeton, snap a shot and get back home - just as the kettle boiled. 67026, ADB975978, 507021, Red Rum, and ADB975974 on 5X68, 08:06, Warrington Arpley - Birkenhead North - unit ex repair at Doncaster For dinner I headed to Bidston for the outgoing stock move - lovely British "summer" weather 67026, ADB975974, 507012 and ADB975978 on 5X75, 12:56, Birkenhead North - Doncaster - unit for repair Once again a timely bit of gen meant I could head to Ince and Elton for the GBRF (no time for Helsby)- fortunately it was running very early so I could stretch lunch a bit and still get it. 66731 on 4C77, 12:45, Fiddlers Ferry Power Station - Newbiggin gypsum - via Ellesmere Port (rev) The rain was very heavy and the wind was driving it straight into the lens, but no reason not to wait ! Swindon 123
Sorry to highjack this thread but it is sort of relavent for the area. Just saw my first Colas liveried 66 (66846 I think?) on the Chirk timber yesterday (Tue 23 Feb). Pretty sure it was a 57 on the Mon so is this the first to work this train? Paul J. P.S. Just checked and it was 66843.
