RMweb Premium Grafarman Posted October 3, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2014 Just thought I'd post my own 'trackplan' as per Google Earth. Here you can see where I've brought the Green Lane bridge up the platforms to get everything into the 9' length, but retaining everything East of that point. The river at the front will actually be a tad narrower so allowing more scenic detail at the back... Please excuse the poor hand-scribbles; it was done in Paint, as I don't have any software that can do it any better! Hopefully it gives a sense of what I'm trying to achieve anyway... As always, comments/observations etc are welcome David
flyingsignalman
Looking at your trackplan, I would think that the seperate waiting rooms/toilets on the platforms should be moved near to the main building to maintain the "balance"

Maybe have to wait and see how it is 'in the flesh' and perhaps make some adjustments. I guess in the back of my mind I'd always hoped that eventually I'd add on the extra couple of feet to finish off the whole length... Anyway, we'll see! Thanks for the input. GreenBR
Hi Stephen All input is always welcome, so thank you, I'll wander over for a look around... Edit: some lovely pictures there Stephen, and some great shots of the stock around the station; would there be any chance of getting larger copies of them so I can zoom in on things? David Hello, No probs just send me the file number ( the numbers before the hyphen) and I will sort something out Regards

ffayolle
Nice project!!! I went to Llangollen during the summer. I've taken some pictures you can see here (at the end of the post) : http://www.modelrailway-online.com/llangollen-railway/ I apologize for the French text. The trackplan is very simple but the scenic view is amazing. Have a G'day, Fabrice
RMweb Premium Grafarman Posted October 4, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 4, 2014 Just to prove that building is actually in progress, I took some pictures of the layout today during some tracklaying experiments. As you can see, the boards have been assembled, although the final shape of the cutaway along the river's edge is yet to be finalised. It's all very basic at the moment, but hopefully you can get the idea! The track is all Peco code 75, so the points aren't exactly the right length, but they're the closest I could get readymade. The lines will continue off the end board under Green Lane bridge into the fiddle yard. I've also included some pictures with Tornado and a 4MT with 3 Mk1's, both being typical of the 'celebrity' and 'everyday' traffic seen at Llangollen. And here's a very rough aerial picture of the layout plan; apologies for the poor picture-matching!! More soon David
flyingsignalman
Nice work on the boards and track laying but I'm surprised that you've included a trap point in the dock road as one isn't provided there (as my photo of the diagram in my post 18 shows). RMweb Premium Grafarman Posted October 5, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 5, 2014 Nice work on the boards and track laying but I'm surprised that you've included a trap point in the dock road as one isn't provided there (as my photo of the diagram in my post 18 shows). You are of course right, and it was my mistaking a photo I took which I think led to it being put in; something must have got in the shot at just the right angle which made it look like a trap...anyway, it's not set yet so I'll take it out...mind you, someone will probably come along and say there should be one there even if it hasn't got one!! Edit; I knew I'd seen one somewhere! The original plans of Llangollen (pre-preservation - see your post #48) had a trap point in the Bay siding; I must have combined that with my dodgy picture and made the wrong assumption...so at least I was half-right David
flyingsignalman
I was going to say that the pre-closure layout had a trap where you had put it - but you beat me to it! Here's an early diagram of the layout that I drew (its inverted from a proper SB diagram as I like the up line running to the right)

I prefer to see the diagram that way round too... David

Dmudriver
Hi David. I went to Llangollen this weekend and took some pictures for you. However, there was an exhibition coach and a Queen Mary brake van parked over the Up line point of the crossover and that, together with a) the limited turnround time we had and b) the red tape involved in getting onto the track (even though I was traincrew), meant I couldn't get all the information I wanted to. Having said that, you've got a couple of good pictures to work to, looking at your photos above. I'll have to PM the pictures to you as they're too big to put on here. I'll hope to do that by later today. I do like the baseboard and track layout you've done so far - it's looking good. Rod

A few more photos, Excellent thank you; have had a look and they're going for £30+ so will see...interestingly, the N gauge one looks slightly closer to this one with a better window arrangement, but they're probably close enough! Great pictures again; really like the one with the pointwork up as it gives a clear view of the area without the overhanging greenery you see today which makes it easier to get a feel for the geometry and width. Any more that come up please feel free to post! Many thanks David

RMweb Premium Grafarman Posted October 15, 2014 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 15, 2014 Hijack away! Very nice interpretation there; some interesting scenic things going on, and a really nice block of villas at the back. I think it has a different trackplan to the original as there aren't any points at the west end of Llangollen's platform, but I'm sure the addition adds to operational interest! Would be good to see a picture of the whole frontage to get the 'feel' he has achieved... Nice to see the station inspiring others as it has done for me; I hope Gerry continues to enjoy the location in model form as well as 'in the flesh'! Thanks for sharing David

Irishrailwaymodeller
Hi David, Llangollen in N is almost ready for its first exhibition on 26/27 October in Wexford Ireland! The trackplan is based on the preclosure plan as gleaned from a number of books. I have designed it as a might-have-been restoration railway in order to add continuous operational interest. I have used the old modellers licence on a number of occasions but hope to have captured the essence of Llangollen as a location... I have visited many times and just love the place. I have posted many pictures at http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/3054-Llangollen-in-N. I can post more here but perhaps I should start a new thread here on RMWeb? Thanks for your kind commentsand great work on your own Llangollen in OO. Regards, Gerry

I think it would be a great idea to start your own thread, then you can give some details on construction, trackplan, rolling stock, rationale and so on and people can give feedback and ask questions as they read about it and see the pictures, and maybe they can help you to learn some new skills along the way! Have a look on the main page and start in the 'Layout Topics' area (where this thread is!); see how people lay their threads out, and make a start... Enjoy! David Thanks David, I have started a Llangollen in N thread. Just to mention that most of my buildings were kit-bashed from Metcalfe's N gauge range. They do the same models in OO so it shouldn't be too difficult to do the three story redbrick buildings, station buildings, signal box and covered footbridge.
