lmsforever
This afternoon whilst watching the Tour of Italy cycle race in Trieste on tv today the helicopter shots showed a disused terminal station with steam locos parked plus a great deal od stock. The track looked okay and the OLE was still in situ as were the signals,is this a preservation site or just a dump by the local ril area? EddieB
It's a pleasant railway museum located at the former Campo Marzio station. The official website is here: http://www.museoferroviariotrieste.it/ It has a collection of steam, diesel and electric locomotives. Some of the steam locomotives in the collection came from the former Yugoslavia in exchange for ex-FS steam locomotives now plinthed in Slovenia (an 835 at Pula*, a 740 at Postojna and a 940 at Nova Gorica). Inside the former station buildings are historical artefacts and model railways. Opening times are given on the website. The museum was under threat a while back when there were plans to redevelop the site. For the moment, I believe the museum is secure, but in the longer term there may be issues as it occupies a prime piece of maritime real estate. *Edit: Pula is in Croatia, of course.
