lmsforever
Watching a dvd Aberdeen to Inverness I noted that the double track beyond Insch is a forty mph section ,why is this as the area looks okay ie no subsidence and no other visible problems?Any ideas folks. Edwin_m
Looking at the OS map there is a curve of around 700m radius just before Ardmore Distillery. I don't have the figures to hand but the maximum speed on this sort of curve can't be much more than 40mph. There are some other curves that aren't much better. It might also be that with all trains normally stopping at the station and with a possible restriction on the start of single line they wouldn't be able to get much above 40mph anyway. The timetable relies on trains passing here and on other double sections and possibly accelerating here just means the trains would end up waiting longer to pass somewhere else.
