IGRL
I do not claim to be an expert but my three layouts, County Gate, Cliffhanger and Bratton Fleming are run automatically in shows using largely Digitrax systems. I have lost count of how many chips I have installed into 009 locomotives etc. Recently, I was supplied a batch of defective function chips and now I discover that the replacements for DZ125 and DZ 143 are almost impossible to install without failure. It would seem that if the leads are cut shorter, they fail and often they are failed already. I have now changed to TCS chips which install perfectly. Has any one else suffered these problems? RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted July 9, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 9, 2014 I have had an umber of Digitrax decoders fail over the past year or so or non working upon purchase particularly the N scale 'drop in' boards for US outline locos. Only one or two DZ 125 's usedi n UK N scale fail though and these could have been the farish circuit board.
Crosland
DZ125 and DZ 143 are almost impossible to install without failure. It would seem that if the leads are cut shorter, they fail and often they are failed already. Just cutting the leads will not cause a decoder to fail if done corectly. This sounds like ESD damage to me, i.e. static. Andrew
