The Buckower Kleinbahn

During my recient trip to Berlin, I decided to visit the Buckower Kleinbahn, a small electrified private line (and now museum line), located about 30 minutes outside Berlin. Regional train RB26 from Berlin Lichtenberg connects directly with the BKB at Muncheberg. The line is accessed via a subway from the station. post-15614-0-80980300-1409412872.jpg As can be seen, the facillities at Muncheberg are a little basic! The line runs for around 5KM to the picturesque town of Buckow, in the area known as the 'Markische Schweiz' post-15614-0-39121500-1409413163.jpg Buckow Station. The line is operated by railcars of class 479 and their control trailers dating from 1981, when they were 'reconstructed' from the original 1931 units. The BKB has 3 sets of railcars, two appear to be operational, with a third either awaiting restoration, or being used for spares.post-15614-0-54782800-1409413580.jpgpost-15614-0-82792700-1409413607.jpg In addition, they have two small steeple-cab locos on loan from the nearby Strausberger Kleinbahn and a small diesel shunter (V15 I think). Older footage of the line shows a ko in BKW livery, but there was no sign of it on my visit.post-15614-0-70233300-1409413755.jpgpost-15614-0-01068000-1409413777.jpg The little line is well worth a visit if you are in the area and the fares are pretty cheap (5 Euro return). Please note, however, that the line is only open weekends and national holidays between April and early October.
