Hey all

Having dismantled my old layout because of a house move, i am finally getting around to building a new layout in my garage, I am currently building the baseboards, the layout will be 7m x 4m on 2 levels with long running lines between. The initial plan is for two stations, a small container terminal and a tmd, with plenty of long freight trains. I will be using finescale track with copperclad points on the scenic sections and peco code 100 and peco points left over from the last layout causeway junction. I will post some pictures of the baseboards shortly.

Thanks

Phil

Baseboard construction underway tonight having built the fiddle yard builds I am now starting with the upper level scenic boards that will sit on top of the yard. The upper level boards are fixed to the main boards with 10mm threaded bar, so that the height can be easily adjusted.

More baseboard work today, I have arrived at the problem area the garage door! I need to design some sort of hinged section to allow easy access in and out, but with 2 levels this wont be easy at all...wish me luck!

Hey all,

More progress with the baseboards tonight constructing the section between the two sides of the layout this sectionþ will be hidden below the upper scenic level, it will be the south end of the fiddle yard. With this now complete, I have ordered 4mm cork underlay and can begin to lay the fiddle yard tracks. Will be nice to see some track in place ready for trains.

The layout will be 4m x 7m when complete, a full 'lap' will take 4 loops around the layout, on three different levels.

Started laying the fiddle yard tracks this afternoon, starting to realise how big this actual is now...theres going to be alot of track laying ahead. I havent decided yet, what way to operate the points, rather than cut holes under each point I think i'll just mount them to the side as the fiddle yard wont be seen anyway and will be much easier to wire up.

My layout is similar in a way to this one. Although my lines for the yard don't all join at both ends. I have two long lines that join at both ends and then the rest are just long sidings which get shorter as they get closer into the middle of the board.

Fantastic work and great size yard! Great for 60s, 66s and 70s to pull their long trains into

Keep it up!

Fantastic space to work with there.  I look forward to seeing all the freight stock you have running again.  The long trains of causeway junction were fantastic to watch rumble past.

Cheers richard, hopefully I will have trains running in some form for christmas, but just not sure what christmas tho...

Another update and more track laying in the yard I now have most of the track in position and pinned down at the north end, and have made it around to the south end. The longest siding will be 6.5metres and the shortest will be 3 metre. By the next update I will hopefully have the south end complete ready for wiring track feeds and point motors.
