Very nice. Interesting that Qatar, who already fly the B787, are taking the 350 too.

Hi,

The A350 XWB is not designed as a competitor to the 787, it's designed as a replacement for the 777, and thus a competitor to 777x.

The fact that Qatar will be flying both types doesn't point to anything.

Not quite Simon, the A350 is a direct replacement for the A330/340 series.

That puts in in competition with both the 787 and the 777  (current 777-200 /300 variants and the new 777-8X/9X).

The current 777-300 series and new 777-9X have a bigger passenger capacity than the largest (longest fuselage) A350-1000 though and are often bought/leased as replacements for Boeing's own 747-400.

There's a degree in overlap in each manufacturers ranges, both in terms of the present range and the aircraft fleets they are intended to replace.

For example, the 787 is intended to replace the 767 and smaller 777-200, whereas the 777-X is intended to replace both 777-200 & 300 and a proportion of the 747-400 fleet.

Naturally they are also aimed at winning Airbus replacement business, whenever possible.
