Phil Brighton
Hi, This is just posted out of interest as its actually quite useful. Its more to help solve a discussion about what is happening. I use a Sprogg 3 to power my layout . If I have a short anywhere a clicking noise comes from the effected area. I think the reason there is an on off pattern is the Sprogg protecting itself and turning the power on and off. What I am less sure about is why the noise comes from the area of the short. Even if you short the track with a good connection and away from locos and point motors (making sure its not anything to do with the motor coils) the noise comes from the short. Its really useful to help track problems as I didnt build turn-off-able blocks in the wiring but why does it happen? The short simply makes a circuit so why would noise come from and one part of the layout?
Crosland
It's probably the sound of the air ionising due to the arcing at the "short circuit". Andrew
RMweb Premium PaulCheffus Posted October 11, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 11, 2014 Hi It's not just the SPROG that does this, my Lenz set is the same which would go along with Andrew's comment above. Cheers Paul
