70E
I think this question sits within this topic rather than painiting etc. I missed the boat in purchasing a 'STEAM' limited edition so thought I would purchase a Dapol Class 52 in either green or maroon livery and re-paint into desert sand livery. I know that the window surrounds need to be black and buffer beam red needs attention but before I purchase one are there any glaring detail differences that I should be aware of that either need to be removed to back date or added or can I just buy one of the previously mentioned colours and repaint without problems? many thanks
BernardTPM
Depending on how early, there may be no pipes under the buffers, just the steam & vac pipes in the red recess. As built it didn't have that rectangular, vertical panel on the side, not the moveable far RH grille both sides. The latter would be quite hard to change though. Here's an excellent close-up taken, I would guess, in 1962.
John Tomlinson
Just in case you weren't aware, the name and numberplates on D1000 as originally fitted were deeper (taller) than on other members of the class. Shawplan/ Extreme Etchings do a set along with a very nice etched lion crest that wil set your finished model off a treat. John.
