Andrew,

Those wagons were used on the main lines to carry iron ore from the quarries to the steelworks.

Yes, on arrival at the steelworks, they would have been moved internally to the ore stock piles.

They would have been worked coupled together in long trains.

They were used extensively to ship ore from the former S&L quarries to Corby works. In the scheme modleed by Hornby, it dates them to post 1967 when, as far as main line running was concerned, they would have been restricted to the few remaining quarries in Rutland/ Leics/ Lincs as well as Glendon, Irchester and Twywell South of Corby.

Being common user for BSC, they were also used on the Corby internal quarry system alongside the pure internal user wagons which weren't passed for mainline running.

After Corby closed, they were scrapped or for some escapees, they ended up on internal use elsewhere. As well as Lackenby, some remained at Corby, others went to Tinsley Park and I believe some also went to Llanwern and Ravenscraig for scrap movements.

This represents one of a batch of built by Met' Camm' in 1962 for Stewarts & Lloyds, Corby originally numbered 6001 - 6035 later becoming BSCO 25101 - 25135 in 1973, all these later became internal users at BSC Lackenby!

There was also wagons built to the same design that ended up at BSC Scunthorpe with some being transferred to the coke works at Orgreave!

The wagons at Scunthorpe were to the same design as the 35 built for Corby but were not registered to run on BR lines and numbered in the low 20XX series in the Scunthorpe fleet!

These link to Paul Bartlett's site for these and the ex Corby ones

Hornby BSC wagon carry only coke from colliery or limestone from quarry ?

Or carry scrap metal,y

These were built for the carriage of Iron Ore for Stewarts and Lloyds at Corby, when the works closed in 1979 all 35 were transferred to Lackenby as internal users!

At Lackenby they were used to move Scrap from the beam mill to the BOS plant and Slag from the BOS plant!
