Arthur
Andrew, Those wagons were used on the main lines to carry iron ore from the quarries to the steelworks. Yes, on arrival at the steelworks, they would have been moved internally to the ore stock piles. They would have been worked coupled together in long trains. RANGERS
They were used extensively to ship ore from the former S&L quarries to Corby works. In the scheme modleed by Hornby, it dates them to post 1967 when, as far as main line running was concerned, they would have been restricted to the few remaining quarries in Rutland/ Leics/ Lincs as well as Glendon, Irchester and Twywell South of Corby. Being common user for BSC, they were also used on the Corby internal quarry system alongside the pure internal user wagons which weren't passed for mainline running. After Corby closed, they were scrapped or for some escapees, they ended up on internal use elsewhere. As well as Lackenby, some remained at Corby, others went to Tinsley Park and I believe some also went to Llanwern and Ravenscraig for scrap movements.
