Garethp8873
Just got my hands on one of Bachmann latest models, the SR 12T Van in the Express Dairy Company livery. I have been looking forward to getting this van from Bachmann since it was announced and it has well been worth the wait...!! A impressive livery...!! Garethp8873. G-BOAF
Just taken delivery of mine (wasn't up the top of the priority list, but was increasingly sold out at many retailers). What an incredible model! The 12t SR Vent van alone is an impressive beast, but with the addition of really beautiful livery. My only grip is that pictures of the prototype seem to show the letter spacing slightly adjusted to clear the metal cross members, and Bachmann's decoration has the lettering printed across the bracing. Minor point on an otherwise incredibly executed model. One assumes there are multiple printing processes required (to get both the white lettering and blue shading), so that considered, worth every penny. Get them while you (still) can. Sadly my Dapol Express Dairies 6-wheel Milk tanker is going to look a little dated in comparison with this! In the same consignment was a BR Pipe waggon, another impressive beast. RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted July 29, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 29, 2015 So presumably perfect for a rake of 10 to go behind the "Dunkirk" Black Motor then? Trouble is, there were only ever four of them and only two had the Morton brake as per the Bachmann model. Express Dairy wouldn't have needed many - you can get an awful lot of eggs into a van that size! I'm guessing that the typical disposition of them at any given moment might be: one being loaded, one travelling up full, one being unloaded in London and one returning down empty. RMweb Premium OnTheBranchline Posted July 29, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2015 Did these solely run on the Southern? Would any have run on GW metals?
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 29, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2015 Interesting, I have seen somewhere a pic with one of these with the 'decoration' visible in the Dairy Yard at Seaton Junction circa 1960. I suspect it may well have been showing through whatever had been painted over it about 18 years earlier. Whatever, that's why I got one! P
Fat Controller
Weren't there also some LMS vans that carried a very similar livery? I believe there was some egg traffic on the GWR; Fishguard and Goodwick had some shoc-vans allocated to imported eggs from Ireland just prior to WW2. Best way to look at is that wagons that wherever they were needed so I imagine they may have possibly done so...
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted July 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2015 Did these solely run on the Southern? Would any have run on GW metals? I'm not 100% certain, but I think they ran solely between Seaton Junction and London. Sounds like a job for Rule 1. John

P Do we know if they had special internal fittings, which may well have been the case for an unusual load. A bit surprising that they weren't replaced by shock vans. However a photo of the same vehicle still at Seaton J would suggest they were specialised. Paul
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted July 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 30, 2015 Some SR vans were fitted with internal shelving, which may or may not be the case with these. In BR days, such vans were lettered "PARTO" and I'd be interested to know if the one in the 1960 photo was or if it carried any painted instructions as to the route it should work over.
